The U.S. State Department notified the New York court handling the case against Maduro that it has formally recognized Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, as the country's head of state. In the letter, Kozak clarified that the United States has not recognized Maduro as the Venezuelan head of state since January 23, 2019, and that "this lack of recognition continues to this day." The official added that the U.S. objective is to achieve "a gradual process that creates the conditions for a peaceful transition to a democratically elected government" in Venezuela.
